Gücüm SEZER Guitar Project

An original musical narrative that blends tradition with modern sounds.

Founded in Istanbul in 2023, Gücüm SEZER Guitar Project (GSGP) is an instrumental music project that places the classical guitar at the heart of its artistic identity, exploring the rich rhythmic and melodic world of Brazilian guitar music through original compositions and distinctive arrangements.

Established by guitarist, composer and educator Gücüm Sezer, the project draws inspiration from the characteristic rhythms, melodic elegance and harmonic richness of Brazilian music whilst developing a musical identity of its own. In Sezer’s original compositions, elements of Brazilian music meet the rhythmic and melodic structures of Turkish music, creating a distinctive musical language in which different traditions interact and transform one another.

GSGP’s musical identity is shaped by the expressive subtlety of the classical guitar, complemented by the power of the trumpet, the depth of the double bass and the rhythmic drive of the drums. Each instrument contributes to the overall musical narrative, bringing technical precision into balance with melodic sensitivity and musical interplay. The repertoire combines Gücüm Sezer’s original compositions with arrangements, developed specifically for the project, of selected works from the Brazilian guitar repertoire.

At the heart of GSGP lies the pursuit of a creative dialogue between different musical cultures. This approach is also reflected in Sezer’s work as a solo guitarist. Arrangements developed for the project allow selected pieces to be performed both as solo guitar works and in ensemble settings, opening up new expressive possibilities whilst preserving the distinctive character of each composition.

Gücüm SEZER Guitar Project’s releases include the singles Rüzgar and Yapraklar, released separately in 2024, as well as Dalgalar (2024) and Uyanış (2024). In 2025, the project released the EP Gün-ü Aydın, bringing together original compositions and interpretations of Brazilian repertoire. Recording sessions held in September 2026 for Muhammed Yıldırır ile Virtüözite, a programme broadcast by TRT Müzik, the music channel of Türkiye’s public broadcaster, represent another step in expanding the project’s profile within the national music scene.

Gücüm SEZER Guitar Project continues to develop its own musical voice by bringing together musical heritage and contemporary creativity. Each composition and arrangement forms part of an artistic journey in which different cultures do not merely coexist, but engage with, enrich and transform one another, giving rise to a distinctive and personal musical expression.
